The RYA Day Skipper course will prepare you to skipper a yacht for the first time.
By the end of the RYA Day Skipper practical sailing course you will have learned the skills to skipper a small yacht in familiar waters by day and be able to charter a yacht in the UK or abroad.
5-Day Practical RYA Day Skipper
The 5-day practical RYA Day Skipper course will take you through basic skippering techniques, under the watchful eye of your RYA instructor. You will learn the essentials of navigation, pilotage, anchoring, mooring on both pontoons and buoys, man over board recovery and experience some night sailing and navigation.
9-Day Combined Theory & Practical
If you don't already hold the RYA Day Skipper Theory certificate, consider our highly popular 9-day Combined RYA Day Skipper Theory and Practical Course; you will complete the theory syllabus in our on-site classroom then set sail whilst the theory is still fresh in your mind.
Our sailing courses are run on a modern 37ft yachts in superb condition, complete with onboard heating for Winter dates. Courses start and finish at our Port Hamble Marina base.
You will stay on board during the practical course as you explore the Solent and South Coast, visiting a variety of marinas and bays to experience different mooring scenarios. All courses finish 4pm on the final day.
Pre-requisites
- Minimum age 16.
- 100nM, 5 days and 4 night hours on a sailing yacht.
- RYA Day Skipper Theory or equivalent level of knowledge (theory included as part of 9-day).

Saturday to following Sunday. Refreshments and course training material during theory part, staying on board for 5 day and nights during practical element.
